Thomson Reuters Professionals Explain U.S. Unclaimed Property Laws, Best Practices, and Important Considerations at Seminar for Corporate Management and Accountants

CARROLLTON, Texas, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- "Each of the states and other jurisdictions have their own unique unclaimed property laws. This can be challenging for corporate managers, responsible for unclaimed property compliance," said Valerie Jundt, a director with the Unclaimed Property practice at Thomson Reuters. "As states look to increase revenue, enforcement of these laws has become more prevalent. A clear understanding of unclaimed property nuances will help mitigate risk of stringent audits resulting from non-compliance issues."

Thomson Reuters will host an educational seminar on Unclaimed Property: Compliance & Reporting Responsibilities in Harrisburg, Penn., on Nov. 3. Valerie Jundt and Kathleen Moyer from the Unclaimed Property team at Thomson Reuters, along with representatives from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Holder community, will discuss handling of:

    --  reporting obligations;
    --  recent unclaimed property cases and legislative updates;
    --  gift cards and rebates - a hot topic this year;
    --  pros and cons of voluntary disclosures;
    -- best practices, policies, and procedures; and

    --  state audit processes.

"Corporate management and their accountants need to know what types of items are considered 'reportable' under law, where to report the unclaimed property, deadlines for reporting, and how to mitigate compliance risk," said Kathleen Moyer, senior manager of Unclaimed Property at Thomson Reuters.

Valerie Jundt has more than 25 years of diverse unclaimed property experience. Her expertise is in state administrative policies and practices, audit resolution, voluntary compliance, enforcement actions, law changes, and policy and procedure best practices. Jundt is a former state unclaimed property administrator and the former executive director for the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators. She is first vice president of the Unclaimed Property Professional's Organization and a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Jundt is a co-author of the Unclaimed Property Treatise published by the Bureau of National Affairs and is a frequent speaker on unclaimed property topics.

Kathleen Moyer has specialized in unclaimed property for more than 25 years. She has assisted corporations with compliance reviews, multi-state unclaimed property audit defenses, preparation of state unclaimed property filings, and due diligence mailings. A specialist in unclaimed property compliance, her policies and procedures have been cited as 'best practices' in the unclaimed property community.
