Thomson Gale Named Electronic Database Vendor for Region 10 in Richardson, Texas
Thomson Gale Databases Will Serve 195 High Schools
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomson Gale, part of the Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), was selected as the high school library database vendor for Region 10 in Richardson, Texas. As the Online Library Services database provider, Thomson Gale databases will be provided to regular instruction high schools in the region.
"Thomson Gale is proud to continue a strong relationship with Region 10 as their electronic database provider," said Dave Schroeter, vice president of K-12 sales for Thomson Gale. "Region 10 high school students are among the top users of our databases, both in their schools and remotely from their homes. This widespread usage demonstrates how relevant and accessible our content is for students conducting research."
"This level of activity doesn't happen by accident," Schroeter added. "It speaks to the efforts of individual schools to inform students of these tools, build healthy research habits and encourage lifelong learning. We hope Region 10 will set an example for the state's entire educational community."
"The Thomson Gale research databases provided by Region 10 for our high schools in place of the state databases has been a critical resource for our students," said Teena Garvin, Library Director for Garland ISD. "The exceptional literary collection, general reference articles and journals have enabled our students to perform the basic research they need for content area classes. These online resources provide more than 24/7 access to materials -- they encourage our students to use the information seeking skills they will need for both college and employment."
Belinda Jacks, Library Director for Grand Prairie ISD, agrees. "These databases provide a high quality product that is used by many of the colleges and universities our students will attend. While Internet searching has its place in research, it doesn't replace the need for authoritative and reliable databases like Thomson Gale's databases, which are necessary for valid and dependable research results."
