INTEGRIS Health Deploys MercuryMD MData Mobile to Give Physicians Access to Patient Information Via BlackBerry Handsets

November 14, 2006 at 1:53 PM EST

DURHAM, N.C., Nov. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MercuryMD, a Thomson healthcare business (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), today announced that INTEGRIS Health Inc., Oklahoma's largest not-for-profit health organization, has added support for the use of the company's MData Mobile(R) patient data information system on BlackBerry(R) handsets. The combination of MData Mobile and BlackBerry gives INTEGRIS Health's clinicians fast and easy access to comprehensive patient medical record information from any location and at any time.

INTEGRIS Health, which operates 13 hospitals comprising more than 1,500 beds, deployed MData Mobile two years ago to give physicians ready access to all of their patients' medical record data at the point of care. By adding support for MData Mobile on the BlackBerry platform, INTEGRIS Health is able to expand the use of MData Mobile to their extensive base of BlackBerry users across the entire health system.

According to James Lynch, R.N., M.B.A., director of Clinical Applications at INTEGRIS Health Inc., "MData Mobile's ability to sync patient data seamlessly from our clinical system proved a tremendous success with our physicians, practice nurses and physician assistants.

"The growing popularity of BlackBerry was a factor in bringing MData Mobile to that platform, and it was relatively straightforward to integrate the two products," said Lynch. "The support for BlackBerry in MData Mobile will allow INTEGRIS Health to offer MData Mobile to more of our physicians and other clinicians. Expanding the use of MData Mobile will help increase physician efficiency during rounds, reduce transcription errors and improve the quality of patient care enterprise-wide."

MData Mobile extracts patient information-including patient census lists, demographics, laboratory and radiology results, medication lists, pathology reports, consults and other transcribed reports-from the hospital's clinical and ancillary information systems and delivers it directly and securely to the clinician's PDA, smart phone, tablet PC or desktop. With improved access to the full range of patient information, clinicians can make better informed decisions and spend more time with patients.

William "B.J." Lawson, M.D., chief medical officer for MercuryMD, said, "We applaud INTEGRIS Health for leveraging their BlackBerry and MData Mobile investments to give their clinicians ready access to critical patient data. Their work is a momentous step forward in the evolution of wireless workflow devices that help physicians perform their jobs better in the pursuit of higher quality and safer care."

"The deployment of MData Mobile on BlackBerry at INTEGRIS Health will be recognized by healthcare practitioners around the world, and presents further evidence that the application ecosystem supporting BlackBerry is broad and thriving," said Jeff McDowell, vice president of Global Alliances at Research In Motion. "By combining the mobility of the BlackBerry platform with the MData Mobile solution, physicians at INTEGRIS Health can help improve responsiveness and enhance the quality of patient care."
